Christian Aid CTS May Update

1. New Treasurers
The Committee is delighted that Carole Binks, who lives in Southwell and a member of Saint Michaels and all Angels at Averham, and Nicola Rush, who attends The Minster, have volunteered to become Joint-Treasurer. The processes should be in place for Christian Aid Week.

2. Ecumenical Christian Aid Week Service Wednesday 8th May 7.30pm at The Minster, Southwell  NG25 0HD
We do hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend  this national witness of Christian unity and action. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate  the beginning of Christian Aid Week, and gather together to worship, pray and reflect on the needs of people in Burundi.
One of the most densely populated and poorest countries in Africa, Burundi is heavily reliant on agriculture and a country least prepared to combat the effects of climate change. The global cost of living crisis has intensified the challenges: more than 70 per cent of the population live in poverty and more than half of children are chronically malnourished.
Ian Hind (Senior Volunteer Officer Christian Aid) will  update us on the situation and you are all warmly invited for refreshments after the service in The Crossing.

3. Christian Aid Week Sunday 12th May - Saturday 18th May 2024

In Burundi Christian Aid is establishing community-led Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs). This enables people to save and borrow money, making small businesses possible, offering reliable and diverse incomes so families can eat regularly, get medicine when they need it, and build safer homes.

Like last year we intend to put an envelope through every door. There is an electronic envelope for online donations at

https://fundraise.christianaid.org.uk/envelope-2024/southwell-and-villages and drop off points for envelopes.
