Newark Hospital Sunday chaplaincy volunteers

The chaplaincy at Newark Hospital runs a simple Sunday service in the chapel for patients and their friends and relatives. We are looking for volunteers to assist us in keeping this valuable service going and would like to ask you to consider joining us.

You need to be 18yrs or over and available on a rota basis for Sundays 15.30–17.00. Your duties would be to go onto the wards and ask who would like to attend the service. The patients would then be put into a wheelchair by the nurses and you would need to return to the ward to wheel them to the chapel. You would then stay with them until the end of the service and then wheel them back to the ward. There is no moving or handling involved other than wheeling the wheelchairs.

If you are at all interested, please contact the Newark Chaplaincy on 01623 622515 Ext. 6201 and leave your contact details. We will then contact you and arrange to meet and discuss your involvement further.

Southwell Minster Guild of Stewards

Additional volunteers are wanted by the Southwell Minster Guild of Stewards to help to provide a ministry of welcome to visitors. We greet each visitor with a smile and a personal word, provide them with information, find out where they are from, draw their attention to all the ‘must-see’ features, and answer any questions they may have. By treating each visitor as an individual, we try to make their visit a memorable one.

If you are interested in joining us, we would be delighted to hear from you. After joining, you would be given a detailed induction and attend a comprehensive training programme, before shadowing an experienced Steward. We are a very friendly group and we have monthly get-togethers, social events and occasional outings. Please contact David Turner, Chief Steward, on 01623 793039, or leave a message for him with the Minster Office on 01636 812649.

Connections

Each Wednesday of term time, Holy Trinity Church is open to visitors, and a simple lunch is available to anyone who drops in between 12 noon and 1pm. We have a faithful core group of older people, including some from Moorfield Court sheltered housing. We also welcome some young families who like to meet in church where the children can run around without causing problems. We always have some toys out for them.

We need people to help serve the food and clear up. If you are available between 12 and 1pm on a Wednesday and would like to help, please email Marjorie Hustwayte. It doesn't matter how little time you can offer; once a month would be wonderful but we can fit in with your availability.

We have a very good team; come along, make some new friends, and you can enjoy a delicious lunch as well. If you can't help, come anyway!
