Prayer Pointers for ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ 10 days of prayer
29th May to 7th June 2025
Introduction
“Thy Kingdom Come” is the name for a global ecumenical prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus. This year more than a million Christians from 85 denominations across 90% of the countries in the world will be praying during the 10 days between Ascension day and Pentecost.
In Southwell, our response to this call to prayer has been for all 7 churches, together with St Michael’s in Farnsfield, to create and run a 24 hour per day prayer room for the 10 days. The invite is to join together to lift up ourselves, our families and friends, and those in the communities in which we live, before God to be transformed by encounter with his love, grace and power. The prayer room is called “The Lighthouse” and is located in the upper room at Southwell Methodist Church.
The following verses and prayers are offered to you to support you over the hour – whether praying in person at the Lighthouse – or virtually from your home or elsewhere. Please do not feel constrained to use all, or any of them. You have committed your time to engage with God and are welcome to do that in whatever way works for you.
Time of Preparation
- As you enter prayer now take time to become still;
- Breathe slowly
- Recentre your scattered senses upon the presence of God
- Hear God’s words to you
“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10 NIV)
- Remain still and let the noise and distractions of our everyday lives and circumstances reduce and allow space for the truth of these words infuse your life
Encouragement to Pray with Thankfulness
- Read the following verses from Philippians Chapter 4
“Don’t worry over anything whatever; whenever you pray tell God every detail of your needs in thankful prayer, and the peace of God, which surpasses all human understanding will keep constant guard over your hearts and minds as they rest in Christ Jesus” JB Phillips New Testament
Take time to thank God for His amazing love both for you individually for your family, friends and all those that live in the communities that we live in, and engage with.
- Take this thankful attitude into the following sections where we will put needs before God.
Expressing our Heart’s Desire
From the Lord’s prayer we pray:
“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.”
(Mt 6: 9-10 AV)
It is to our loving heavenly father that our prayers are directed. It is the will of God that His Kingdom come and His will be done in and through His body, the gathered Christians in Southwell and Farnsfield.
- Lord God, we thank you for drawing all churches & fellowships together with the common aim of bringing our communities before you that you may grow Your kingdom through transforming the lives of those that we lift to you in prayer. May “Your will be done” and may Your kingdom grow!
What we are about – From the Romero prayer
As we prepare to lift people before God in prayer, let us be clear about our role. This is beautifully expressed in this short extract from the “Romero Prayer”:
This is what we are about.
We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water the seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We provide yeast that produces effects far beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that. This enables us to do something and to do it well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.
Take time to consider the partnership that is so beautifully encapsulated in this prayer.
May we take time to commit our loving and almighty God the ‘seeds’ that we plant through our prayers in this hour, and in the hours and days to come.
May the Lord take the little that we can do and enter through His Holy Spirit work in power to draw all those that we pray for into His kingdom, for His glory.

Digital Detox Journal
This is a daily devotional that can be used throughout the period between Ascencion and Pentecost Sunday. There is a version for youth (with copies available at The Lighthouse), or for adults.
It can be used as a reflection tool or prayer journal, or a fire starter, table leg leveller – or however you want. Just know that you are not journeying through this alone. However scattered we might be physically, just like the first Christians thousands of years ago, we’re a part of something bigger that connects us all. Here are links to the two versions:

Prayer Stations
There will be 6 Prayer Stations in the ‘Lighthouse’ prayer room. If you are praying at the Lighthouse please engage with any, or all of these prayer stations in the way that works best for you.
The following information is included for those people who are praying virtually, of for those looking for an introduction to each of these Prayer Stations:
- Our Relationship with God
In the prayer room a wooden cross will be set up and people are welcome to write down, on the paper provided, things that they wish to leave at the cross. They will then fold them up and nail them to the cross. Leaving them for God to deal with. For those praying virtually, please lift in prayer the things that you wish to leave behind at the cross. You can visualise them being nailed to the cross – both the physical act of writing the things down, then nailing them into the cross with nails. Then sense the sharp sound of the hammer head hitting the nails to drive them in. In God’s grace move on, leaving them for Him to deal with.
- Community
The community focus at the Lighthouse will include the following areas: Businesses; Health; Wellness; Mental Health and Schools.
- The Nation
Whether at the Lighthouse, or virtually, lift before God issues that affect our nation. Prayer areas include:
- Humility, Repentance and Forgiveness are pre-requisites for blessing.

- For the King, Prime Minister, Parliament and ALL who are in position of Authority. Read: 1 Timothy 2:1-2
- For wise, Godly, and righteous decisions in our law making and courts of justice. Read: Proverbs 14:34

- The World
At the prayer room there will be information about 10 Crises that the world cannot ignore. These countries are: Sudan; Gaza; Myanmar; Syria; South Sudan; Lebanon; Burkino Faso; Haiti; Mali and Somalia. The information provided comes from the Operation World and IRC websites. The sole reason for providing the information is to encourage people to lift difficult and contentious areas, in which people are suffering, up to our loving Heavenly Father. - Care for Creation
The focus is on our engagement with God’s creation. There are four themes: Thankfulness; Sorrow; Hope and Commitment. Copies of the full document will available for use at the Lighthouse prayer room.Scroll to the bottom of this page for more detailed information :
- Children’s Activities
During ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ there will be activities for children to engage in at the Lighthouse. Please pray that God will engage with young people of all ages as they engage with these activities.
Final Prayer
Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
Dear Lord, we are weak but you are unimaginably powerful. We trust that your power will work in and through those praying this day and throughout the 10 days of prayer. May our commitment in prayer be honouring to you and we invite you, in your sovereign power, to transform our lives and may it mark the start of a new season of fruitfulness in Southwell and Farnsfield that overflows into growth in your kingdom.
