Street Pastors successfully launched
in Newark and Southwell

What is a Street Pastor?

A street Pastor is someone from the Christian community who is willing to care, listen and help, particularly with regard to young people who have found themselves disenfranchised and or marginalized from society. A Street pastor is someone who is willing to engage people where they are, in terms of their thinking (their perspective of life) and location (where they hang out—be it on the streets, in pubs and clubs, or at parties).

The Street Pastor is here to get to know people in the community and build relationships; in doing so, hearing their needs and offering appropriate help.

Street Pastors must gain the credibility of the community, so that the community comes to know that the love of Jesus has come to them through His people the Church.

Southwell Minster Guild of Stewards

Additional volunteers are wanted by the Southwell Minster Guild of Stewards to help to provide a ministry of welcome to visitors. We greet each visitor with a smile and a personal word, provide them with information, find out where they are from, draw their attention to all the ‘must-see’ features, and answer any questions they may have. By treating each visitor as an individual, we try to make their visit a memorable one.

If you are interested in joining us, we would be delighted to hear from you. After joining, you would be given a detailed induction and attend a comprehensive training programme, before shadowing an experienced Steward. We are a very friendly group and we have monthly get-togethers, social events and occasional outings. Please contact David Turner, Chief Steward, on 01623 793039, or leave a message for him with the Minster Office on 01636 812649.

Each Wednesday of term time, Holy Trinity Church is open to visitors, and a simple three-course meal is available to anyone who drops in between 12 noon and 1pm. We have a faithful core group of older people, including some from Moorfield Court sheltered housing. We also welcome some young families who like to meet in church where the children can run around without causing problems. We always have some toys out for them.

We need people to help serve the food and clear up. If you are available between 12 and 1pm on a Wednesday and would like to help, please email . It doesn't matter how little time you can offer; once a month would be wonderful but we can fit in with your availability.

We have a very good team; come along, make some new friends, and you can enjoy a delicious lunch as well. If you can't help, come anyway and try out our cooking!
